Evaluating OpenQuant

Posted by: Milton In: Automation

I have a bit of a love hate relationship with Metatrader. I love the fact that it’s free and that it will run on Linux (using Wine), however that is about the extent of my love for it. My list of dislikes about it are many, to summarise: I think from a technological perspective that [...]

Some years back I did some research into Genetic Programming and using it for automated trading. Needless to say it didn’t get the results I was looking for so I gave up relatively quickly. Since then I’ve looked at many other methods of automated trading and now I’m back to Genetic Programming. I’ve learnt more [...]

Rethinking the trading strategy

Posted by: Milton In: Automation| Market Neutral

OK, so you think you’ve got a great strategy and it works great, you’re raking in the cash and life is looking up. Then something big happens and you go into a big drawdown waiting for the mean reversion.
That’s what happened yesterday/last night for me, the aussie dollar falling like a rock was that something [...]

Ck has had a big life direction change, and I find it comforting to see others seeing things in somewhat the same way that I do, particularly somebody who has had a quite a bit of exposure to expert advisors. Specifically regarding constant optimisation of an expert advisor.
My view on automated trading is that it [...]

Quick Cash

Posted by: Milton In: Automation| Market Neutral

Just made a nice quick 1% with my trading, generally I need to hold my positions for a little while, though this time I managed to turn my trading apps on at a time when it looked great so I opened my positions and straight away it started working, closed it out when it was [...]

What a joke

Posted by: Milton In: Automation

Last year in the Automated Trading Championships I ran a long term though risky EA I threw together very quickly just before the championships started, that EA was actually half decent (I was leading for a couple of weeks). I remember many people complaining about their EA’s being unable to open or close positions which [...]

Not ideal

Posted by: Milton In: Automation

I’m disappointed. My EA in the Automated Trading Championships appears to not be functioning… however the copy I’m running locally is working well without any issues.
No trades have been executed since the beginning couple of seconds of the championships and I can’t see any expert advisor logging either to give a hint as to what [...]

Historical data not loaded?

Posted by: Milton In: Automation

My EA seems to be broken. With one set of trades in the first couple of seconds of the championships it hasn’t done anything else (it really should have). I’m not sure what is the cause of this, the only thing I can think of is perhaps it is the way that the historical data [...]

Sweet, I’m entered

Posted by: Milton In: Automation

Just a follow-up to my last post in which I was worried that I may not get accepted into the Automated Trading Championships, well I just received an email saying that I’ve been accepted!
Now to see how my EA actually performs

I’m worried

Posted by: Milton In: Automation| Market Neutral

I’m worried that my EA won’t be approved for this years Automated Trading Championships.
I was told that multi currency EA’s would be manually approved after registration closed. After registration closed I received an email stating that my EA had errors (zero division error). I sent them an email telling them the only reason this would [...]

About FOREX Howto

Forex Howto is a site that I setup some years ago, I neglected it for a couple of years and now it's back online.

It will have my progress as I explore the world of Forex trading and my experiences in trying to profit from it.

If you need to contact me, just leave a message on any of my posts and I'll be sure to read it.

About me: I'm a 31 year old aussie living in Sydney, Australia.

I work as a programmer and hope to someday use my programming skills and growing knowledge of FOREX to work fulltime, ideally in an automated trading setup.
